IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa City man was tased early Thursday morning after allegedly assaulting an officer.

Iowa City police say they saw a man driving in the 2400 block of Lakeside Drive with a brake light out at around 1:22 a.m. Thursday.

When officers stopped the car at the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Regal Lane, they say the driver, 41-year old Leon Kurt Shivers, got out of the car.  After officers ordered him back into the car, they say he walked away and tried to get into his home at 60 Regal Lane.

When police approached Shivers and told him to step away from the door, they say he refused  and began fighting with the officer.

After the fight went to the ground, they say they tased Shivers and arrested him.

Shivers is charged with operating while intoxicated - third and subsequent offense, assault on a peace officer and driving while license revoked.
