84th General Assembly adjourned

Both chambers of the Iowa Legislature adjourned in Des Moines early Wednesday evening.

The Senate officially adjourned at 5:23 p.m.

The House adjourned nearly an hour later, at 6:13 p.m.  The moves come after a joint House-Senate committee approved a $1.59 billion spending package covering the state's various health and social services.

The bill is the final piece of the budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1st. Republicans got rid of abortion restrictions that held it up.

Lawmakers agreed on the state's $6.2 billion budget.

Lawmakers failed to find compromise on Governor Terry Branstad's property tax reform proposal.

Adjournment comes nearly three weeks past due.
