DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A man died Tuesday as the result of a motorcycle crash in southwest Wisconsin.

According to the Grant County Sheriff's Department, the man, 60-year-old Thomas W. Jackson of Dubuque, had been driving his 1995 BMW motorcycle northbound on US Highway 151 south of Dickeyville, Wis.

He was traveling an area of the highway that was down to one lane due to construction. Officials said Jackson pulled into the closed right lane in order to pass several cars. While doing so, he struck an area where construction crews had removed a large section of concrete from the roadway. That caused his motorcycle to overturn.

Jackson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but still suffered serious head injuries. Dickeyville EMS transported him to Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, where medical officials pronounced him dead.

The Grant County Sheriff's Department said officials don't believe alcohol was a factor in this crash.
