Kernels lose doubleheader to Timber Rattlers


The Kernels dropped two games on Monday night to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in a doubleheader forced by rain on Sunday.

In game one, the Kernels managed only three hits and the Timber Rattlers hit two solo home runs as Cedar Rapids was shut out 2-0.

Cam Bedrosian took the loss for the Kernels, pitching three innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out two and walked three. Mike Johnson pitched three innings in relief.  He gave up one run on one hit while striking out three and walking one.

In game two, a three run fourth inning was all the Timber Rattlers needed, as they downed the Kernels 3-2 to sweep the night.

Austin Wood took the loss for the Kernels, giving up all three Timber Rattler runs in the fourth inning.  Jason Rogers hit a two-run home run and Ben McMahan scored on two-out single by Rafael Neda.

Kaleb Cowart got the Kernels on the board in the sixth inning when he launched his fifth home run of the season.

The Kernels got within one in the seventh inning when Andy Workman scored on a Gary Mitchell single.

Austin Wood pitched five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.  He struck out six and walked three.

The Kernels wrap-up their series with Wisconsin on Tuesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m.
