WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A Waterloo boy is continuing to recover after he was hit by a vehicle and thrown 45 feet.  It happened near the intersection of Vine and Idaho back on May 2.

Police say 6-year-old Tanner Spaulding was on his scooter when he was hit by a van.  The driver, 30-year-old Crystal Russell, told officers she didn't see Spaulding.

Spaulding was flown to Iowa City for treatment, where he has just been taken out of the intensive care unit and placed in a regular hospital room.  His mother says Spaulding is "doing as well as can be expected".

A benefit account to help the family with ongoing medical expenses has been established.  Donations can be made for Tanner Spaulding at any Wells Fargo location.
