Wayland Fire Department confirms tornado touchdown

The Fire Department in the Southeastern Iowa town of Wayland are monitoring the town overnight after a tornado hit around 8:40 p.m. Thursday.

Mike Miller, a fireman on the Wayland Department, said most of the damage was to two turkey farms. All of the turkeys from those farms are currently being transported to another location.

He also said a few houses had some blown trees on their roofs.  The Wayland Fire Department went door to door after the tornado hit, but he said they didn't find any injuries and no one was missing as of 12:20 a.m. Friday morning.

Miller said the tornado missed the town by about a half of a mile. Miller said homeowners are mostly taking care of clean up themselves and fire crews will be assisting with tree removal and other damage-related clean up Friday morning.
