WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A six-year old Waterloo boy was hit by a vehicle outside his home on Wednesday afternoon.

Waterloo police say Tanner Spalding, 6, was riding his scooter in front of his home on Vine Street Wednesday afternoon at around 3:40 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Crystal Russell of Evansdale.

Lieutenant Mike McNamee says charges are not expected to be filed against Russell.  He says it looks like it was just an accident and Russell had no time to react.

Spalding was taken to Allen Hospital and then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.  His condition is not known.

Police say Spalding was thrown about 45 feet and he was conscious but not responsive.
