20th annual Marion Arts Festival May 19


The 20th annual Marion Arts Festival is coming up Saturday, May 19, 9 am to 5 pm in City Square Park. This annual family-friendly arts and crafts event is free, and will feature 50 visual artists from coast to coast.

The Marion Arts Festival www.marionartsfestival.com has been recognized as one of the Top 20 Fine Arts Festivals in the U. S. Art Fair SourceBook,  www.artfairsourcebook.com named the Marion Arts Festival #17 in the nation for 2012. The MAF is also unique in that it is a one-day festival, while some of the others in the country are two or three day events.

New to the event this year is the Emerging Artists Program, through which talented artists from Eastern Iowa colleges and universities will sell their works right alongside the professional exhibitors in City Square Park.

Festival-goers will also be invited to help in the creation of a large-scale mural for Marion's new Vernon Middle School. Participants will be able to put their own glaze touch on tiles for the mural project from the spinning pottery wheels at the festival.

Also new this year will be a half marathon for runners and walkers of all ages. The half marathon will be in addition to the traditional 5K run and fun walk.
