Waterloo Schools have confirmed at least two or three cases of whooping cough at Hoover Middle School.
District officials have sent letters to sixth grade parents informing them of the cases, what to look for, and how it spreads. Tonight, the district's automated calling system is notifying all Hoover parents.
The Black Hawk County Health Department confirms some cases of pertussis or whooping cough are out in the community--with increased numbers in the school system.
Health officials advise parents to watch for cold-like symptoms like a runny nose and cough as they could be signs of whooping cough.
