Kollmorgen emerges as Quarterback Front runner as UNI's Purple beats White team

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Purple defeated White, 17-0, in the University of Northern Iowa football team's spring game on Friday evening in the UNI-Dome.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Sawyer Kollmorgen completed 17-of-28 passes for 237 yards and two scores to lead Purple to the victory. Sophomore Will Roth made his debut at tight end, pulling in five passes for 75 yards and one touchdown.
 
Redshirt freshman running back Austin Ebertowski carried five times for 38 yards to lead the White squad. Junior Zach Cutkomp gained 37 yards on seven carries.
 
Kollmorgen found Drew Zaun in the endzone for a five-yard touchdown pass with 4:31 left in the first quarter to give the Purple squad a 7-0 lead.
 
With 32 seconds left in the first half, Kollmorgen hit Roth for a 21-yard touchdown completion, giving the Purple team a 14-0 halftime lead when Michael Schmadeke added his second successful PAT.
 
Schmadeke converted a 28-yard field goal attempt with 4:01 left in the third quarter to push the Purple lead to 17-0.
 
Junior Jordan Gacke and senior De'Andre Vandevender each recorded seven tackles to lead the White squad. Sophomore linebacker Max Busher led the Purple team with six stops.
 
Sophomore Xavier Williams and redshirt freshman Isaac Ales each tallied 1.5 sacks for the Purple team.
 
Paul Yokas and Jordan Webb snared an interception apiece.
 
UNI will open the 2012 season on Sept. 1 at Wisconsin.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
