Fight leads to shooting in Des Moines


Two Des Moines men were injured in a shooting near a middle school Thursday evening.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. near Hiatt Middle School in Des Moines. Authorities said the shooting started out as a confrontation.

One victim was shot in the head and the other was shot in the chest.

When the police arrived, no one was at the scene.  Police pulled over a green Jeep near the scene at 12th Street and Osceola Avenue occupied by four individuals.  Police removed one male from the vehicle.

The man was holding the side of his head and appeared to be in pain.  He was transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

Police removed the other three individuals from the car and found a gun in the car.

A second car brought a second victim to a Des Moines area hospital.

One is in critical condition the other is in stable condition.
