Indiana sweeps Dubuque out of USHL playoffs

The Dubuque Fighting Saints quest for a second straight Clark Cup Championship ended on Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to Indiana at the Mystique Community Ice Center.

Goalies were the name of the game early on.  Indiana's Jon Gillies stopped 14 Dubuque shots in the first period, many of which came on a five minute major to Peter Hand for head contact.  Hand also received a game misconduct and was disqualified from the game.

Indiana finally broke through 13:44 into the first when Robbie Baillargeon scored, making it 1-0 Indiana.

Indiana's Jacob Fallon would score the eventual game winner just 37 seconds into the second period on a rebound off of Dubuque goalie Matt Morris.

The Fighting Saints finally got on the board in the third period when Tyler Lundey got the puck into the back of the net at the 12:48 mark to make it a 2-1 game.

The Ice finished off the scoring with just 43 seconds left in the game when Sean Kuraly scored an empty net goal to make it 3-1.

Matt Morris stopped 24 of 26 Indiana shots, while Gillies stopped 34 of 35 Dubuque shots.

The Fighting Saints finish the season with a 38-23-4 record.

Indiana moves on to the conference finals where they will face the Green Bay Gamblers.
