WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A Waterloo man was arrested early Thursday morning, accused of assaulting a Cedar Rapids man with a bat at a convenience store.

Black Hawk County deputies were called to the New Star Mart at 9 N. Elk Run Road at around 1:50 a.m. Thursday for a report of an assault in progress.

Deputies said Patrick B. Ellis, 40, of Waterloo, hit Jonas B. Kabemba, 25, of Cedar Rapids, with a bat multiple times while in the store's parking lot.

Kabemba was taken to Allen Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Ellis, who had left the store before deputies arrived, was found at his home and arrested.  He is charged with willful injury.
