Waterloo Schools announce administrative changes

As part of an administrative reorganization, Waterloo Schools Superintendent, Dr. Gary Norris, has appointed East High School Principal, Dr. Willie Barney, as Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education and Special Education.

Dr. Barney will supervise principals of all Waterloo middle and high schools and oversee the District's services for students with special needs.

He will assume some of the duties of Dr. Peg Dokken-Opat, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative and Student Services, when Dr. Dokkn-Opat retires at the end of June.

Dr. Barney has been the Principal at East High since 2007. Of his appointment, Barney says, "I look forward to working in this new capacity at the District level. East High has been a challenging, rewarding experience for me, and I'm going to miss the wonderful folks here."

Replacing Dr. Barney as Principal at East High will be Marla Padget, currently Principal at Central Middle School. Padget is a 1980 East High graduate with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Education Degrees from the University of Northern Iowa. Padget's successor as Central Middle School Principal has not been announced.

The District's current Director of Professional Development and Instruction, Amy Moine, will assume new duties as part of the reorganization. Moine will become Executive Director for Elementary Education and Professional Development.

Amy Moine will supervise the elementary principals in the Waterloo Community School District and will continue her responsibilities in directing professional development for Waterloo teachers.
