A five-run seventh inning helped the Dayton Dragons scorch the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 8-3, in Dayton Monday night.

Dayton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third when Juan Perez hit a two RBI double down the right field line.

The Kernels cut the Dragons lead in half in the fifth inning when Ryan Jones hit an RBI single, scoring Andy Workman.

The Kernels would then take the lead in the sixth.  Trevor Hairgrove scored on from second bas on a Ryan Jones single.  Kaleb Cowart would score all the way from first on the same play when Dragons right fielder Kyle Waldrop committed a fielding error.

Dayton tied the game at 3-3 in their half of the sixth when Waldrop scored on a Yovan Gonzalez single.

But the seventh inning proved to be the end for Kernels.  Nine players came up to bat for the Dragons in that inning.  Five of them scored making it 8-3 Dayton.

The Kernels Ryan Crowley pitched five and two-thirds innings in the start.  He allowed three runs on eight hits, struck out five and walked one.

Logan Odom took the loss for the Kernels.  He pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked one.

Carmine Giardina also pitched two-thirds of an inning  for Cedar Rapids.  He allowed three runs on three hits while striking out two and walking one.

Frank DeJiulio finished it out for the Kernels, pitching one scoreless inning.  He allowed no hits, struck out none and walked one.

The Kernels wrap-up their series with Dayton, as well as their nine game road trip, on Tuesday night.  They return home on Thursday to host South Bend.
