I-380 road construction set to begin Monday

If you are traveling on interstate 380 near the Evansdale/Waterloo area be ready for some major construction.

The project will start at the U.S. 20 interchange and go just west of River Forest Road in Evansdale. That stretch of road is almost six and a half miles long.

The project is designed to reconstruct the southbound lanes in that area. Monday DOT crews will start patching the northbound lanes and getting them ready for extra traffic.

When the patching is done all the traffic in the south bound lanes will shift to the northbound lanes making it a two way road

With how much traffic Interstate 380 sees in a day, the DOT suggests you take alternate routes.

"If you take those routes, you will probably be better off. You can still take these if you want, the interstate, but be prepared for congestion, be prepared for possible delays especially during the busy times of the day," said Pete Hjelmstad, Iowa Department of Transportation.

Traffic should be switched over to the north-bound lanes in mid-May. The project is expected to last into the fall.
