Des Moines Boy Scouts deal with budget shortfall

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The Mid-Iowa Council of Boy Scouts in Des Moines has made tough spending cut backs to get out of a $356,000 deficit.

The council's top executive says the council has eliminated positions and taken other tough steps to get out of debt.

Heavy borrowing led to the budget shortfall. The money was used to make improvements to the Scout facilities including a new dining hall at Camp Mitigwa, north of Madrid.

In 2010, the council raised more than $3 million to build a new headquarters in Des Moines, but that money is reserved for construction.
