Metcalf, Paulson come up just shy of Olympics spot

Former Hawkeye Brent Metcalf and former Cyclone Travis Paulson made the finals, but couldn't finish things out as the two just missed out on clinching a spot on the US wrestling squad.

Metcalf's loss to former Oklahoma assistant coach Jared Frayer marked the first time he'd ever lost inside Carver Hawkeye Arena.  Frayer swept Metcalf in a pair of 3 period matches 5-1, 0-4, 6-0 and 2-1, 0-1, 2-2.

Former Cyclone and current Iowa State assistant coach Travis Paulson made it a step closer.  Paulson actually beat former Northwestern national champ Jake Herbert in his opening finals match.  Herbert, however, rallied to win the final 2 to clinch the team USA spot for the London Olympics.
