Wrestling trials draw thousands to Iowa City

The weekend's U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials have drawn in thousands of people to the Iowa City area.  Between contents, many folks headed to downtown Iowa City.  ASICS held a fan fest downtown with fitness competitions, food and fun.

Iowa City Mayor Matt Hayek says all the wrestling trials easily broke attendance records by some 30 percent.

"The US Olympic Committee is pleased beyond belief, we heard that last night. They wanted to drive the fan attendance, and that certainly is occurring. It's such a benefit to our hotels, restaurants and retail shops. It's just a great thing for us to host," Hayek said.

The mayor says he hopes the success of the wrestling trials in Iowa City will help bolster the city's reputation so that it might be able to draw more high-profile sporting events in the future.
