It's karaoke time each Wednesday at Maple Lanes bowling alley in Waterloo.
The event is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for people with special needs.
"Whether they really sing well or just get up here to have a good time, it really doesn't matter. I'm here for a good time. I'm here for their enjoyment," said Michael Pauling.
Michael Pauling operates "A Good Time" Entertainment.
Back in January of 2002, he started offering these karaoke events to specifically cater to people in eastern Iowa with special needs.
"I've done this now for going on ten years. I absolutely love what I do. At times, I wish it was easier financially, but as with everything, if you really love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life," said Pauling.
The evening of singing is open to all agencies in the area who serve individuals with special needs. The cost is $3 for a chance to take the mic.
"There's people in everyday life who are scared to do this and when these kids get up on that mic it gives them such a confidence and such a self-worth. It's amazing what comes out of this group. It really is," said Michael Pauling.
Pauling, known as Flipper, said you don't have to be a star singer -- it's all about having fun. And he certainly enjoys watching and listening, too.
"It's a blast. It's a blast," he said.
Michael Pauling hopes to one day open his own facility to offer karaoke and many other community events.
