Veteran stamp coming to Iowa driver's licenses

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Iowa military veterans will soon be able to have their status on their driver's license or state identification card.

A bill signed Thursday by Gov. Terry Branstad will make it easier for veterans to claim benefits.

"Starting next year, veterans will be able to get the word "VETERAN" stamped prominently on its face of their Driver's license or state identification card," said Senator Jeff Danielson of Cedar Falls. "This will make accessing the benefits they've earned more straightforward and won't require our veterans to carry around torn and tattered DD-214 and other military documents."

The veteran's stamp will be available July 1.
