Volunteerism embodied during National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week. It's a week that embodies the energy and power volunteers have right here in our community.

Cassy Moothart is just one person in the Cedar Valley sharing what she loves to do, her passion for photography with others.

North Star Community Services in Waterloo is a resource for people with disabilities.

Just a few hours a week Moothart shares her love for photography with some of them.

"Anytime I get the opportunity to put myself in somebody else's shoes I learn more about myself and about life," said Moothart.

Just last year Moothart decided she wanted to volunteer. She says it was an influence from her brother.

"He is a social butterfly," said Moothart.

Moothart's brother also has disabilities. After producing a photo documentary on her brother for a college project, she was inspired to give back.

"Someone who has disabilities, I'm learning to see things in a whole different way I have never seen before and it makes me a better person for it," said Moothart.
