NEW DETAILS: Cedar Rapids police release name of shooting victim

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids police have released the name of a man shot Tuesday night.

Police say they received a call of someone being shot in the 2000 block of 5th Avenue SE at around 9:34 p.m. Tuesday.

As officers were on their way to the scene, they say they got a call from the victim, Jerome Smallwood, 26, of Cedar Rapids, saying he had been shot in the face and was driving himself to St. Luke's Hospital.

Smallwood told police that he went to the 2000 block of 5th Avenue SE to speak to someone when he was shot.  The shooting is still under investigation.

Police say Smallwood is expected to survive his injuries, but was transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
