UPDATE: Defense rests in Anding murder trial

Posted:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The defense rested late Tuesday afternoon after Paris Anding took the stand in his own defense.  He is on trial for 2nd degree murder, accused of killing 19-year-old Marcellus Andrews in Waterloo last August.

Anding says he hit Andrews, but only to protect his aunt.

Attorney:  "When you saw Marcellus coming over and raising whatever he had in his hand, what did it look like to you?"

Paris Anding:  "It looked like he was about to hit Toni."

Attorney:  "And is that when you hit him?"

Paris Anding:  "Yes, ma'am."

Attorney:  "How many times did you hit him?"

Paris Anding:  "I only hit him once."

Anding was the defense's second witness.

The jury will take a day off Wednesday.
Closing arguments in the case are scheduled for Thursday morning.
