Puppies of rescued dog up for adoption in Cedar Rapids

Six puppies that were born to a cocker spaniel rescued from a Sac County farm earlier this year are ready to be adopted.

The Cedar Valley Human Society will hold a special adoption event for Lola's six puppies on April 28 at 10:00 a.m.

15 of the 88 dogs taken from Sac County on January 25 were brought to the Cedar Rapids facility.  Two of them, including Lola, were pregnant.  Lola gave birth to four males and two females on February 12.

Penelope, the other pregnant female, gave birth to four puppies on March 16, but her puppies are not old enough to be adopted out.

To adopt one of Lola's puppies, you must be present at the event.  You will be given two tickets, one for a male puppy and one for a female puppy.  You drop the tickets in the corresponding jar and tickets will be drawn from each jar.

Staff will collect adoption applications from those whose tickets are selected.  They will then evaluate the applications and puppies will be given to those that are approved.

A care package with a leash, collar, puppy food, dog toy and blanket will be sent home with each puppy.

If you want to adopt one of these puppies, you must bring a copy of your lease if you are a renter and veterinary records for each pet in the home.  Applications can be completed before the event, but applications will not be accepted until the day of the event.

The puppies will be moved into the adoption area on April 25 and the public is encouraged to visit them during regular business hours.
