RoughRiders drop game one in Youngstown

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders will look to even their first round series against Youngstown on Tuesday night after dropping game one to the Phantoms in overtime on Monday night.

The Phantoms jumped out to an early lead when Mike Ambrosia scored midway through the first period.

The Riders took a 2-1 lead in the second period thanks to goals from Dylan Gareau and Ryan McGrath.

Youngstown tied the game in the third on a goal from J.T. Stenglein.  But, the RoughRiders would take the lead again on a shorthanded goal from Nick Saracino.

That lead would only last a couple minutes.  Jonathan Liau scored the game tying goal with 4:05 left to go in the game.

Austin Cangelosi scored the game winning goal 6:18 into the overtime period to give the Phantoms their first ever USHL playoff win and the 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

The Phantoms outshot the RoughRiders 42-18.  Matthew O'Connor made 15 saves for the Phantoms, while Jake Hildebrand made 38 saves for the RoughRiders.

The Roughriders and Phantoms face-off Tuesday night in Youngstown, Ohio for game two at 6:15 p.m. central time.
