Iowa lawmaker hurt in storm cleanup

An Iowa state senator and her husband were hurt cleaning up from the storms this weekend.

Republican Senator Pat Ward of Clive hurt her back, and her husband John has a partially collapsed lung after John fell from a ladder.

Ward issued this statement Monday:

"My husband John and I want to extend or sincerest appreciation for all of the many kind thoughts and prayers extended our way as well as the wonderful care we have received from Mercy Hospital.

We had an accident at our residence related to the picking up of storm debris this weekend. I had a minor compression fracture in my lower back that will not require surgery and John has several fractured ribs and a partially collapsed lung.

We are both doing well, are in good spirits and we both look forward to being released from the hospital later today or tomorrow. I am excited about returning to my work in the Senate either tomorrow or later this week."
