Canucks, Penguins on verge of elimination

The team that posted the NHL's best regular-season record is a loss away from being swept out of the playoffs in the opening round.

Dustin Brown's goal with 13 1/2 minutes left in the final period lifted the Kings past the Vancouver Canucks 1-0 in Los Angeles. Jonathan Quick earned the shutout by stopping 41 shots.

Canucks goalie Cory Schneider made 19 saves while starting in place of Roberto Luongo, who was replaced following a pair of 4-2 losses on home ice.

The Kings can wrap up the series at home on Wednesday.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will try to become just the fourth team in NHL history to win a series after losing the first three games.

Danny Briere , Matt Read and former Penguin Max Talbot each scored twice as the Flyers blasted the Penguins 8-4 in a fight-filled game in Philadelphia.

Jordan Staal and James Neal each had two markers for the Penguins, but Evgeni Malkin continues to seek his first goal of the postseason.

Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was lifted after yielding six goals in two periods. He's allowed 17 goals while compiling a 6.34 goals-against average in the series.

The Flyers can close out the Eastern Conference series Wednesday on home ice.
