IOWA CITY (KWWL) -
An Iowa City man charged with kidnapping and sexual assault, now faces witness tampering charges.
Iowa City police say Peng Tang, 21, sent a letter from jail on April 4 asking his friend to find the victim in his case and get her to change her story.
According to the criminal complaint, Tang wanted his friend to tell the victim to tell police that she lied and report that it was consensual.
Tang is now charged with tampering with a witness or juror and solicitation to commit an aggravated misdemeanor.
Tang's parents, Xuefan Tang, 57, and Li Qiao, 49, were charged with witnessing tampering last week after police say they came to Iowa and asked a friend of their son's to find the victim in the kidnapping case and "persuade" her to change her story. Police say that the parents were willing to pay the victim to change her story.
Peng Tang is charged with kidnapping and sexual abuse after police say Tang locked a woman in her bedroom and sexually assaulted her while looking at her apartment for a possible sublet on March 29.
Police say Peng Tang admitted to assaulting the woman.
