Overnight fire destroys flooded CR home

Posted:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A home damaged by the 2008 floods is now burnt to the ground.

The fire happened at 1000 Ellis Boulevard in Cedar Rapids about 3:30 Monday morning.

When the Cedar Rapids Fire Department arrived on the scene the roof had collapsed.

An attached former small retail store was  completely consumed with flames.

The heat from the burning home was so hot it melted the siding on three close by homes. The fire also caused a power line at the intersection of I Avenue and Ellis Boulevard NW to snap.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is the 30th known structure fire in the flood zone.
