UPDATE: Name released in fatal shooting outside Cedar Rapids strip club

Cedar Rapids police have released the name of the victim in a fatal shooting outside a Cedar Rapids strip club Monday morning.

Officers were called to Woody's Show Club at around 12:43 a.m. Monday for a reported shooting.  When they got there, they found Raphael Blackwell, 22, in the parking lot with a gun shot wound.

Blackwell was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.  He was shot once in the torso.

Police are still searching for witnesses. They say the club was open at the time, so there might have been some witnesses who left the scene.

"We're still looking at all the different evidence.  We're looking at all the video. we're looking at any shell casings. We're still looking for any witnesses," said Sgt. Cristy Hamblin with the Cedar Rapids police.

Tuesday, friends placed this small bouquet of flowers and balloons outside the business to remember the life of young 22 year-old.

Friends we spoke with who declined to be identified, say Blackwell will be remembered for his smile.

Blackwell's Facebook page was flooded with similar thoughts, many saddened to see his life cut so short.

Wednesday, Blackwell's mother tells us Blackwell is originally from Chicago and recently moved to Cedar Rapids to start a better life.

Police continue to look through hours of surveillance footage outside of the show club.  It is unclear at this point whether the video shows any details from the shooting.

"We're looking at before and after as well to see if we can see anybody suspicious," Hamblin said.

Police believe Blackwell was targeted but are not sure the relationship between him and the responsible party.
