Experts warn women about ovarian cancer screenings

Posted:

Experts are warning women who are not considered high risk for ovarian cancer should avoid screening for the disease.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force suggests only women with a family history of the disease or those how test positive for BRCA 1 or 2 genes, should undergo screening. Research shows 10 percent of women screened for the disease will have a false positive and a third will have an ovary removed. They say for the general public, there is more risks than benefits associated with screening.
