AOTW Hunter Zempel, Hudson United's scoring machine

Hunter Zempel is a scoring machine.  The Union senior playing for Hudson United has found the back of the net 21 times in just 5 games this season, and is already just 5 goal short of the Hudson single season record.

"He's tops," says Hudson United coach Sue Rink, "He's tops in every category in character, play on field.  He has goals."

A lot of Hunter's goals, however, have been born from disappointment.

Hunter, a leading wide-out on Union's football team this past season, dislocated an elbow in the Knight's third game in the season.  He could only watch as the team rolled to the class 2A state title.

On the soccer field, his Hudson squad fell 1 game short of the state tournament the past 2 seasons.  He's bound and determined to make sure his final season won't end the same way.

"I feel that it's time to go," says Hunter, "It's time to make it to state really."

Early in the season the 9th ranked Pirates have responded, scoring 37 goals while storming out to a 5-0 record.

Hunter believes the Pirates have an advantage this year.  "We have a lot more experience now because a lot of our juniors were sophomores last year who started. The seniors have gotten a lot of experience as well, so I think it's going to pay off in the end."

There's a hope and belief on this team that payoff could mean a state title.

"They're capable of holding that trophy up," says Rink, "The talent is there, the desire is there."

Hunter Zempel agrees.  "I definitely feel we're capable,  I think everybody knows that on our team, so we're just taking it game by game."
