Public Health Director Miller-Meeks to Speak in Iowa City

The Status of Public Health and Health Care in Iowa is the topic of the public forum to be held Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Room 203 of the County Health and Human Services Building, 855 S. Dubuque Street in Iowa City

Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health, will be the guest of the Johnson County Task Force on Aging. Director Miller-Meeks will present an opening statement and then will answer questions from three panel members: Dr. Brian Kaskie, Associate Professor Department of Health Management and Policy; Dr. Christopher Squier, Professor in the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology and Medicine at the University of Iowa and a former member of the State Commission for Tobacco Use and Prevention Control; and Jeff Charis-Carlson, Opinion Editor of the Press-Citizen.

The public is invited. Persons attending will have the opportunity to submit written questions for the panelists to use. Persons attending are encouraged to be in their seats 5 minutes prior to the start.

Issues to be addressed will include the Governor's desire for Iowa to become the healthiest state in the nation and what is being done to achieve this goal. Another issue is what Iowa has done to implement the Affordable Care Act and what Iowa plans to do if a part or all of the act is declared unconstitutional.
