Local doctors encourage planning for later

Posted:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Allen Health System and Cedar Valley Hospice are encouraging Eastern Iowans to go through the process of planning for later in life and after death.

The appropriate measures to take are the durable power of attorney for healthcare and living will. In Iowa, this process of getting these is free. These documents allow people to tell loved ones how they want to be cared for if they are ever in an instance where they cannot communicate it.

Next Monday is National Healthcare Decision Day. For more information on how you can get started on this process, head to www.nhdd.org .

And to print forms, head to the Cedar Valley Hospice website or Allen Hospital's website or the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare website.
