Petrino out at Arkansas

Bobby Petrino is no longer the football coach at Arkansas. He's been fired after getting caught lying about circumstances surrounding his April 1 motorcycle accident.

Razorbacks' athletic director Jeff Long says Petrino knowingly misled him, the school and the public when he said he was alone at the time of the crash. It turns out that the 51-year-old Petrino was riding with football department staffer Jessica Dorrell. He later admitted that he'd had an inappropriate relationship with the 25-year-old woman.

This is the same coach whose tenure with the Razorbacks began under a cloud of second-guessing following his abrupt departure from the Atlanta Falcons 13 games into the 2007 NFL season, not long after telling the owner he was staying.

Petrino left farewell notes in the lockers of the Atlanta players rather than telling them of his resignation in person. He was introduced later that night as the new coach of the Razorbacks.

Petrino finishes with a 34-17 record in four seasons. He went 21-5 over his final two, leading Arkansas to a No. 5 final ranking last season and a Cotton Bowl win over Kansas State.

Petrino issued a statement apologizing for what he calls "selfish decisions" that cost him his job.
