36,000 light truck tires under recall for sidewall defects

Multistrada Arah Sarana, an Indonesian tire maker, is recalling more than 36,000 light truck tires because flaws in the sidewall can cause them to lose air, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall involves 16-inch Achilles Desert Hawk LT215/85R16, LT225/75R16, LT235/85R16 and Radar Radial RLT-9 tires produced between January 2010 and November 2011 and LT235/85R1 tires produced from December 30, 2009, through January 31, 2011.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says blisters can develop in the sidewall of the Achilles tires. The Radar tires have a design defect in the sidewall that can cause the tread to separate. The flaws mean that the tires could lose air suddenly, increasing crash risk.

No crashes or injuries from the tire defect have been reported to the company.

Multistrada Arah Sarana will notify owners this month for free replacements. Owners can contact the company customer hotline at 1-800-944-8414. For more information, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website
