Cold temps concern fruit growers

Those who have gotten an early start on planting are preparing for more frost as temperatures dipped below freezing in most of Iowa and parts of Nebraska.

The National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings for much of eastern Iowa into Wednesday. Overnight lows in Iowa could fall into the 20s again.

Forecasters say Canadian high pressure moving into the region is bringing clear skies and colder temperatures. The freeze warning comes after a March that was the warmest on record for the central U.S.

Fruit growers say blossoms are about a month early this year. Experts say everything from vineyards to strawberry patches to orchards is at risk where temperatures drop into the 20s.
