NICC Ryan Burchard fundraiser Saturday, April 14 in Farley

It's probably safe to say almost everyone in the Dyersville area has heard of the Burchard family and their eight-year old son, Ryan.

Ryan is already a State Wrestling Champion, battling for the Dyersville Beckman Little Blazers Wrestling Club.

Ryan couldn't wrestle this season, because he's in a different kind of battle. Ryan has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A-M-L is a form of cancer which produces a large number of abnormal white blood cells. A-M-L is an aggressive form of cancer and is diagnosed in about 500 children every year.

Ryan and his family need your help. That's why students at Northeast Iowa Community College will host a Ryan Burchard fundraiser on Saturday, April 14, at the City Park in Farley.

It's a fundraiser called ‘Run For Ryan.' There will be a 5k Run/Walk at 8:15, a Free kids race at 10:00 am, as well as a Silent Auction and plenty of games, activities, food and fun. Bring your whole family to the Farley City park on April 14. All proceeds and donations will go to the Burchard family.

Back in January, hundreds in the Dyersville community participated in ‘Be The Match,' a bone marrow registry drive. ‘Be the Match' is a way to raise awareness of the great need for bone marrow donors all across the country. The goal is to add as many new names as possible to the bone marrow donor list.

It was a day for Ryan and his family, but also for the thousands of people also battling serious illnesses like Acute Myeloid Leukemia. ‘Be The Match' is truly an opportunity for a perfect stranger to possibly save the life of someone battling leukemia or other diseases, if they turn out to be that perfect match.

Help out Ryan Burchard and his family. Take part in Run For Ryan, Saturday, April 14, at the Farley City Park.
