Hundreds lace them up for LIve Healthy LInn 5K

Hundreds in Cedar Rapids laced up their sneakers to run for the greatest cause of them all - their own health.

Linn County Public Health hosted 230 runners and walkers at its annual Live Healthy Linn 5K on Cedar Rapids northwest side.

The event coincides with National Public Health Week and works to encourage people to take better care of themselves.

Health officials recommend people be active three minutes - for every hour they sit.

They say being active can lead to healthier decisions.

"Once you start your day with physical activity, you're more likely to go out and have a healthier breakfast, a healthier lunch, and a healthier dinner," said Jill Roeder with Linn County Public Health.
