Table to Table holding annual fundraising dinner & silent auction


Organizers of the Table to Table fundraising event invite area residents and supporters to join them as we set sail for a culinary "Cruise of the Mediterranean" during their 16th Annual Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction, scheduled Thursday, April 5, beginning at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the new Celebration Farm, located four miles north of I-80 on Hwy. 1, across from the Morse Road turn-off.

The annual dinner, which is one of Table to Table's major fundraisers, follows a "Dine Locally, Impact Globally" theme, featuring a different world cuisine each year. Tickets for this year's multi-course Mediterranean gourmet meal cost $60 per person, with wine and beer included in the price. The meals will be prepared and donated by some of the area's best chefs and restaurateurs.

The "Cruise of the Mediterranean" fundraiser will also feature a Silent Auction with items and gift certificates donated by area businesses, and a Raffle for an Amana 20.1 cu. ft. upright freezer donated by Foster Appliance of Iowa City. The freezer, valued at $800, will also be filled with $200 in frozen foods donated by Hawkeye FoodService Distribution in Coralville. Tickets for the raffle are available in advance at the Table to Table office at 20 E. Market Street (Old Brick) in Iowa City and online. Raffle tickets are 2 for $10 or 5 for $20.

The Fundraising Dinner, Silent Auction, and Raffle help to support Table to Table's work to collect donations of wholesome, edible foods that are no longer able to be sold, and deliver them free of charge to area agencies for use in meal and food distribution programs. The food donations help feed children, elderly, chronically ill, jobless, homeless, and working poor in Iowa City and Johnson County who would otherwise go hungry, and also help stretch the meal program budgets of recipient nonprofits and agencies.

Since Table to Table's inception in 1996, more than 9 million pounds of food have been collected and distributed, including a record-setting 1 million pounds in 2011.
