EPWORTH (KWWL) -

The city of Epworth is looking for a new mayor.

Former mayor Jacob Reuter served for three years and resigned at last Tuesday's City Council meeting.

The 30-year-old said it was a matter of feeling spread too thin, with a young family and a growing family-owned business.

The Epworth City Council can appoint a new mayor or hold a special election. The public may also petition for a special election.

The Council will discuss the matter at next Tuesday's 7 p.m. council meeting.

Reuter won an Epworth city council election in November 2006 and served on the council from 2007 until March of 2009, when Epworth's mayor at the time died. Reuter stepped up to fill the position and served until March of 2012.

He works at East Iowa Mechanical, which he said his father started and he and his four brothers now help run. Reuter and his wife also have an 11-month-old child.
