Thousands rally in support of BPI

Saturday, thousands rallied in support of a midwest beef manufacturer at the subject of controversy over its product. Beef Products, Incorporated makes lean, finely textured beef, which has come under fire in social media. The company has had to close three plants which make it - including one in Waterloo - due to the controversy. Today, an estimated crowd of 15,000 took to the streets of Sioux City in a show of support for the company. Politicians, local businesses, BPI employees, and thousands of others took part in a cookout and rally. Many held signs and t-shirts with the slogan "Dude, it's beef!"

"it is sustaining to see how the community has rallied around this company, and it's just amazing how many friends we have, from the non-profits to the chamber to officials," said BPI co-founder Regina Roth. 300,000 burgers were cooked up with the help of 40 businesses and students from South Dakota State University.
