Black Hawks beat Tri-City for 30th win

The Waterloo Black Hawks earned their 30th victory of the season, claiming a 4-2 decision on home ice Friday against the Tri-City Storm.

Just after a Black Hawk power play ended, Mike Huntebrinker notched the only goal of the first period.  As the Storm were scrambling to put five skaters back into play, Eddie Wittchow fired a wrister from the left point at the five minute mark.  Huntebrinker deflected it at the edge of the circle for the tally.

Vince Hinostroza scored twice in the second period to add to the lead.  Just 29 seconds into the frame, he stuffed in the rebound created by Tyler Zepeda's wrist shot.  Then at 16:31, he raced into the offensive zone and fired a wrist shot to the top corner before Adam Wilcox could come out of the net for a pokecheck.  In between, the Storm's Trevor Moore struck for a goal to complete a nifty three-on-two passing play at 13:49.

Tri-City narrowed the margin early in the third period; just 1:15 after intermission, Jared Linnell sent a low shot through the skates of Stephon Williams.  After playing end-to-end for long stretches, neither team could hit the net again until Tyler Zepeda scored into an open goal with 1:21 remaining.

Williams made 23 saves to run his personal winning streak to four straight.  Wilcox suffered the loss in spite of 21 saves. The Hawks continue a busy weekend Saturday against the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 7:05.
