Iowa lotto players hope to strike it reach with Mega Millions

Tuesday night's Mega Millions jackpot is up to an estimated $363 million dollars! That's the third largest prize in the drawing's history.  And the big jackpot's got a lot of people hoping to get lucky!

"Oh yeah.  They come in and buy a lot more tickets, lots more tickets when the jackpot is high," said Jeanne Schmitz with Hy-Vee customer service.

From Logan Avenue Hy-Vee to the XO Convenience Store in Waterloo, lots of lotto tickets are being printed. Everyone's hoping to cash in big, as the Mega Millions jackpot nears a record-high.

"I hope I win today!" Amanda Mallit said as she bought a ticket.

Even though the odds of actually striking it rich by hitting the Mega Millions jackpot are around one in 175 million, lotto players still dream big.

"I really need the money.  You know, I've just been in a struggle lately," said Dozie Darren Melvin.

And there's no shortage of ideas for how they'd spend the winnings should they beat the odds.

"I'd put it up, take care of my kids, and pay my bills," said Mallit.

"If I won, I'd be happy.  I'll be able to take care of my family, probably give out some to the community, you know, and put my sister, my son and daughter through college," Melvin said.

When it comes to Mega Millions, you're playing against ticket buyers in 42 states, plus Washington, D.C. and the US Virgin Islands.  And since KWWL is your official lottery station, watch for the winning numbers on the 10 p.m. news Wednesday.
