Family saw struggle prior to Sly's murder-suicide

Relatives of Kelli Sly, the Indianola woman who police said killed her son, then herself, said they knew she was struggling.
"There were people trying to help her trying to get her the help she needed," Brittany Kilts, Sly's sister-in-law, said.
The 23-year old killed her two-year old son Gavin at her Indianola apartment Saturday, police said.
They said she, then, crashed her car into a bridge in Des Moines, killing herself.
Kilts said Sly had a history of depression and it was getting worse. She had just lost her job and received an eviction notice, Kilts said, while she was also going through a divorce.
Kilts said the family was organizing an intervention to convince Sly to seek help.
"I was shocked I couldn't believe she'd do that I knew things were hard but I didn't imagine they could be that hard," Kilts said.
Funeral arrangements for both Kelli and Gavin Sly are still being planned.
