In an abrupt and unexpected move, Drake head women's basketball coach, Amy Stephens, is stepping down after nine seasons.
Drake athletic director Sandy Hattfield-Clubb issued the news in a press release Monday night. The release also contained a statement from Stephens. For her part, Stephens said she and the Drake leadership had different visions on how to lead the program into the future.
In nine seasons, Stephens led the Bulldogs to one NCAA tournament appearance and five WNIT berths while compiling a 151 and 130 record.
Before Drake, Stephens was an assistant at Nebraska and the head coach for eight years at Nebraska-Kearney.
A search for a successor will begin immediately.
