Eastern Iowa hoodie marches part of national protest

Two eastern Iowa communities held marches in memory of a Florida teen.

A crowd of more than 25 people marched down Jackson Street in Dubuque to raise awareness about community violence Monday.

Marchers wore hoodies in honor of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old shot dead exactly one month ago in Florida.

The neighborhood watch captain who shot Martin claims he did it in self defense.

Martin was wearing a hoodie, or sweatshirt with a hood, when he got shot.

People in Iowa City also joined in a hoodie march.

They "threw their hoodies" in the Iowa City pedestrian mall in honor of Martin.

Participants were also asked to sign a petition started by Martin's parents demanding an investigation and arrest of Zimmerman.
