Officers on leave after shooting suspect

Two police officers in Boone shot a suspect Saturday night.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says the officers involved are 32-year-old Sgt. John Wiebold, a 10 year veteran, and 29-year-old officer Korie Barber, a five year veteran.

The suspect is 48-year-old Brian Lee Johnson.

It happened late Saturday night when the officers went to a home to follow up on a previous incident.

They say while the officers spoke to two people, a man ran from the home.

The officers chased after that man, and even tried to use a taser, but they say he turned and pointed a gun at them.  That's when the officers fired their guns.

Neither officer is hurt, but Johnson is in the hospital with serious injuries.

Both officers are on administrative leave pending an investigation.
