Warriors fall in final, finish as USA Hockey runner-ups

Posted:

The Waterloo Warriors put up a fight, but a strong second period by Colorado state champion Regis Jesuit High School was just too much.  Waterloo fell 4-3 in the final of the USA Hockey High School championships.

The Warriors came out of the gates strong as they had most of the tournament.  Alex Schutte struck a powerful shot from just inside the blue line, beating the goaltender for a quick 1-0 lead.  Austin Jackson later tallied his 8th goal of the tournament on a strong wrister to put the Warriors on top 2-0.

Regis Jesuit's Ryan Wagner would soon take over, however.  Wagner picked up a hat trick as his team scored 4 unanswered goals for a 4-2 advantage.

Tim Brown scored late in the second to pull Waterloo within one, but it was Regis Jesuit celebrating in the end after a scoreless third period by both teams.
